What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is a real, paid job, which provides training and opportunities to develop.
Who is eligible to apply for Apprenticeships?
Anybody is eligible, we support people aged 16-24 to apply for an apprenticeship vacancy with us. Apprenticeships are also available for people of any age 16+ who are already in employment, with the agreement of your employer.
What qualification will I gain?
This depends on your Apprenticeship, but you can gain industry-specific qualifications from Levels 2-5 while training with us. Depending on your circumstances, you may also complete qualifications in English and Maths.
How is Apprenticeship training delivered?
Our Fast Track to Apprenticeships courses are delivered at our offices at St Helens Chamber and Merseyside Youth Association. As part of the course you will also complete a work experience placement with a relevant local business for the sector you want to work in.
When you progress into an Apprenticeship you will be based in the workplace and a Training Adviser will come out to visit you around every three weeks to provide training at your workplace. You may also attend a range of half or full day workshops delivered at our training centre in either Liverpool or St Helens.
Is an Apprenticeship a real job?
An Apprenticeship is just like any other job where you will receive an employment contract; you will have set hours, paid leave and possibly more perks depending on the business you’re in.
What will I be paid during my Apprenticeship?
This depends on your employer. You’ll be paid in line with the Apprenticeship minimum wage based on your age. Some employers do pay more, but this is the minimum you’ll get each month.
The current minimum wage rate for an apprentice is £4.15 per hour (under 19 or 19+ in your first year of your Apprenticeship). If you are 19 or over and have completed your first year you should be paid the National Minimum Wage rate for your age.
I have no work experience, can I still apply for an Apprenticeship?
Of course! Our Fast Track to Apprenticeships programmes are designed to help those with none (or very little) work experience to quickly get up to speed with what’s expected of them in the workplace.
Programmes even include a work experience placement where you can really get a feel for your industry and get some experience on your CV.
When do Fast Track to Apprenticeships courses start?
Courses run regularly, so there’s always opportunities to start your career with us!
