VLC (Stairlifts) Ltd t/a Versatile Lift Company has upgraded its website with help from a Business Growth Grant from St Helens Chamber.

The company, which provides lifting solutions for individuals, businesses and local authorities throughout the North West, made contact with the Chamber following recommendations from the business community.

Judith Green, owner of VLC, said: “During the 2008 Credit Crunch, I was buying out the other Director and buying a property in Haydock and the Chamber was a massive support to me at that time.

“I was running the business from inside the business and couldn’t see the wood for the trees. With some support from the Chamber, I took a step back and was able to run the business better.”

This supportive relationship with St Helens Chamber has continued, and last year VLC Stairlifts was awarded with a Business Growth Grant towards the cost of using a specialist website developer to strengthen their online presence.

Judith said: “We have had support with our new website which is now up and running and we are very pleased with it.

“We felt that our website was not portraying who we are as a business. We are a small family company and our main competitors are big corporate businesses. We wanted to portray ourselves as the family business that we are through our website, especially now that my husband and my daughter have joined the team.”

After procuring the services of a specialist consultant with help from St Helens Chamber, VLC was able to have a new website built to better reflect the company and is already seeing the positive impact.

Judith said: “We’ve had more enquiries and positive feedback from our clients and we are excited about it going forward.

“The website is flexible and won’t need replacing in a few years’ time. It is modern, easy to update and will grow with us so we are happy with it.”

Business Growth Grants can fund up to 35% of the cost of using external specialist services and consultancy. The grants can assist with a wide range of projects for business growth and are available to St Helens-based SMEs, operating in a business-to-business capacity.
