Businesses only have until 30th September 2021 to apply for the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.
Through the Kickstart Scheme, the Government will fund a young, unemployed person’s salary for 25 hours per week at the National Minimum Wage. Their National Insurance and employer pension contributions will also be covered by the government.
As a gateway organisation, to date St Helens Chamber has successfully submitted over 300 vacancies from over 130 local businesses to the kickstart scheme.
Laura Brogden, Head of Career Development at St Helens Chamber, explained: “We’ve seen lots of interest from local businesses wanting support young people which is fantastic.
“The Kickstart scheme has helped both candidates and businesses alike, with young people getting the work experience they need and businesses getting an extra pair of hands through their busy periods.”
In addition to salary and contributions, businesses using the Kickstart Scheme will also receive a one-off payment of £1,500 to support with recruitment and training costs.
Laura continued: “The funding really helps businesses across the region to recruit. We understand that recruiting can be costly, so the one-off payment alongside the covered wages goes a long way for businesses who may be struggling from the pandemic.”
St Helens Chamber is encouraging any businesses who want to take advantage of this scheme to get in touch as soon as possible, so their applications can be processed before the cut off date of 30th September.
Laura added: “We wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on this amazing opportunity, and there are still plenty of talented young people locally looking for roles.
“Anyone who is considering recruiting through this scheme should get in touch with us as soon as possible, as we can support with processing your application as an approved Kickstart Gateway.”
St Helens Chamber has a range of Support Packages available to businesses who are applying for the Kickstart Scheme, which can all be funded through your one-off grant payment at no additional cost to your business. Packages run from basic to advanced and include a range of different benefits to suit all business needs.
Neil and Ginny Taylor, Owners of Wind in the Willows Childcare and Kickstart employer, commented: “We were impressed by the excellent level of support offered to assist with recruitment process from St Helens Chamber, including sifting applicants and taking the hassle out of applying directly to DWP.
“The high level of training on offer will also ensure that the young people are well equipped to add value to our organisation from day one. Knowing that the Chamber will handle the full process for us gives us the reassurance that we will be compliant with all DWP requirements.”
