Louise Kelly has hung up her apron and replaced it with a tunic, becoming an Apprentice at Amie’s Hair and Beauty Lounge in St Helens.
After deciding catering wasn’t for her, Louise decided to follow her passion for hair and beauty and enrolled at the Chamber Hair Academy to begin her training.
Louise commented: “I’ve been styling my friends’ hair all my life and I decided it was something I wanted to do for a living. Catering just wasn’t for me.
“After seeing the training advertised on Facebook, I decided to enrol on the course. I liked the idea of doing an Apprenticeship as its more hands on and you get paid while training.”
Whilst on the programme Louise has been able to perfect her techniques as well as grow in confidence.
Lynne Borrowdale, Training Adviser at the Chamber Hair Academy commented: “When Louise first started her Traineeship she was very quiet and slightly shy.
“She has shown that hard work and pushing yourself to learn new things pays off in the end.”
Following six weeks at the Hair Academy, trainees are job matched to local salons for a four-week placement before moving into full time Apprenticeship positions.
Louise added: “It’s much better to be in a salon working and being hands on than being cooped up in a classroom all day.
“The Apprenticeship has improved my people skills and helped me to grow in confidence.”
Whilst on her work experience staff had nothing but praise for Louise and decided to take her on as an Apprentice.
Manager Amie Mather said; “Louise has been great, she’s getting a lot more hands on now and helping out with the customers.
“At first she was quite quiet, but she’s come out of her shell since starting her Apprenticeship and is communicating really well with the customers.
“She’s really taken to it. I don’t have to ask her to do anything as she’s always using her initiative and getting things done.”
