At the beginning of March St Helens Chamber took 13 students on an all-expenses paid international study trip to St Helens sister city Stuttgart in Germany.

The study trip is just one of the highlights for students during their six month study programme with St Helens Chamber.

Currently in its fourth year, the study programme offers school and college leavers six months full-time study in Starting a business, Marketing and Sales and International Trade and Logistics.

Helen Miles commented: “So far 70 students have benefited from the study programme. We try to get as much onto student’s CV’s in the 6 months as possible.

“The Stuttgart trip is very business orientated, the learners are expected to be smartly dressed throughout the trip.

“We were really well greeted by Stuttgart Chamber, Town Hall and the teachers at KS1. This trip has probably been the most successful, the twinning with Stuttgart is working really well.”

The trip is packed full of company visits and guided tours designed to teach the students about international trade and Stuttgart’s culture.

The students visit a variety of companies in Stuttgart including Mercedes, Porsche and one of the largest logistic companies in the world Schmalz and Schon.

Study programme student Meg Hewitt commented; “I am studying International Trade and Logistics, so the tour of Schmalz and Schon gave me the opportunity to experience how a logistic company operates.

“Equally the company visits to the Porsche and Mercedes museums and factories gave an overview of how much Stuttgart exports particularly within the automotive industry.”

At the end of the six month programme leavers are guaranteed an interview for an advanced Apprenticeship within a local business in a relevant industry, or supported to start their own business.

“The opportunity to represent St Helens on an International Business Trip will greatly help when applying for an Apprenticeship.

“It will look impressive on my CV and will give me plenty to talk about during the interview process.” James Leahy.

We are on the lookout for students to join our next Study Programme beginning in September. If you are interested in joining the programme or would like to know more, contact Helen Miles on 01744 742085 or email
