The urgency to reduce carbon pollution has accelerated the need for a sustainable transport solution. Consequently the electric vehicle revolution is well under way. A fledgling St. Helens company, recognising the growing need for vehicle charging points, is quickly establishing itself as one of the North Wests main suppliers and installers.
E-Verve Energy Ltd, was formed by long-time friends Craig Burkes, Simon Roberts and Jennifer Greenan. All now current directors of E-Verve Ltd. The directors and leadership team have many years combined experience in construction, electrical engineering, and energy efficiency. These skills, along with a commitment to environmental responsibility, innovation, and a long held ambition to work together in a business, led to a fairly easy decision to combine their efforts into the new venture.
Says Jennifer, “the discussion actually started at a social event over a few drinks, we were convinced of the viability of the idea. The next morning the seeds for E-Verve were sown.”
E-Verve Energy Ltd is now Government, Industry and Manufacturer accredited to supply and install quality EV charging solutions. It is also an approved installer of the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) which allows it to access available government grant funding on behalf of its customers.
“We wanted everything to be right when we started trading”, says Jennifer, “We are now very proud to offer our customers a full turnkey service from concept and design, right through to installation. We also manage the grant funding applications for clients, and offer a full maintenance package after.”
Recognising that the company needed some assistance with marketing, Jennifer approached the Chamber for support.
She explains, “The only thing we really lacked experience in was marketing, so it seemed obvious to approach the Chamber for help. We were a new company in an emerging market, and we wanted to make sure we had visibility on line. We had to ensure we got our brand out there”
E-Verve accessed the Chambers Business Growth Programme, which provides fully funded business support. This enabled them to work with a marketing expert to make sure that they got the basics in place, right from the start.
“The marketing support was massive,” says Jennifer, “not only did it help get us to where we needed to be with our project, it also helped us hone the marketing skills within the organisation. We can now carry those skills forwards and build on them”
Two years down the line and E-Verve Energy Ltd now operates as the North Wests primary installation partner for some of the UK’s largest EV charge point manufacturers. It carries out installations from Cumbria in the north to North Wales in the south
The speed at which the market has grown has surprised the directors of E-Verve. “We knew it would be big, but the rate at which it has grown has massively exceeded expectations” says Jennifer
In order to cope with the demand for its services, E-Verve has increased its workforce, and it now employs 12 people, with the expectation that this will increase further over the coming months. It is also in the process of moving into a larger office space in Lea Green.
“We’re so pleased with what we’ve achieved so far,” says Jennifer. “We now want to build on that, create more employment and expand into other parts of the country”. She continued, “The support we had from the Chamber has been great, the whole process of accessing the marketing support was so easy, it has been invaluable”
