St Helens Chamber is working closely with DWP on a Sector Based Work Academy, which will give candidates who complete a short training course the chance to get a guaranteed interview for one of 20 roles across their Edge Lane, Birkenhead and Speke stores.
Lisa Weir, Director of Training at St Helens Chamber, commented: “After running a number of these Sector Based Work Academies and seeing how successful they’ve been in getting local people into work, I’m really pleased to be working with DWP and TK Maxx to fill these exciting new retail roles.
“This short training course will give people a chance to develop the skills that this fantastic employer is looking for and everyone who completes the training is guaranteed an interview for one of the 20 roles.”
Sector Based Work Academies are a DWP initiative that combine a range of short training courses which equip attendees with the exact skills the employer is looking for.
For this programme DWP and St Helens Chamber are collaborating to help candidates work on highly relevant skills to the roles on offer from TK Maxx and gain nationally recognised qualifications; alongside having access to expert CV and interview advice from qualified Careers Advisers at the Chamber.
Lisa continued: “The course has been tailored to the roles at TK Maxx, and covers teamwork, communication skills, interview and CV skills, self-management and managing conflict. Each module is designed to make you stand out to employers, now and in the future.
“No experience is needed for these positions, and the 20 vacancies are 16-20 hour initial contracts – with a mixture of permanent and Christmas temp roles available. We would encourage anyone interested in a retail career who would thrive in this fast paced role is encouraged to apply.”
Interested candidates are invited to register for the information session, which is running 6th October, 10am – 2pm at MYA, Hanover Street, Liverpool. This information session will go through everything included in the training, and gives candidates a chance to see whether the roles are a good fit for them.
To be eligible for the training and guaranteed interview participants must be aged 19+ as of 31/08/23, live in the Liverpool City Region and be in receipt of benefits – however everyone is welcome to apply for the roles directly with the employer.
