St Helens Chamber recently welcomed local school De La Salle to their Construction Training Centre to try out different construction tasks.
Students took part in a range of practical activities throughout the day and had the chance to learn from experienced training advisers and ask questions about working in the construction industry.
Students completed activities such as plastering, bricklaying and more; giving them the ability to see what working in construction is really like. They also had the opportunity to speak to Training Advisers who have worked in the industry, who shared their insights and experiences.
Laura Brogden, Head of Career Development at St Helens Chamber, commented: “The taster days at the Construction Training Centre are really important for young people to experience working in a Construction environment – and develop some great skills to add to their CV!
“It was a pleasure to have De La Salle with us, and we look forward to hosting more schools in the future and introducing young people to the construction industry. We look forward to seeing them progress in their careers and hopefully we can help them through our traineeship programmes too.”
The Construction Training Centre offers young people the chance to develop practical skills before they go out into the workplace.
People aged 16-24 looking to start a construction career can choose modules based on their career aspirations, from Construction, Warehousing and Manufacturing and can build up their skills and confidence in a supportive environment.
Taster days give students the chance to see what its really like to work in construction and adds a great talking point onto their CV when they come to apply for roles in the future.
Schools across Merseyside can book a taster day for their students by emailing apprenticeships@sthelenschamber.com or calling on 01744 742045.
