A St Helens construction firm has joined forces with St Helens Chamber to offer training and employment opportunities to local young people.

M&Y Maintenance and Construction, a family owned business employing over 200 local tradespeople is recruiting for local young people to join their team, through a new recruitment and skills programme development for them by St Helens Chamber.

The programme includes eight weeks initial training in basic construction and health & safety skills, delivered at St Helens Chamber’s dedicated construction training centre on Fleet Lane in Parr, followed by six months paid work experience and training with M&Y Maintenance and Construction.

Gill Kelly, Managing Director of M&Y, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people. We know that because everybody here at the company started as an Apprentice and worked their way up. This initiative will help us to nurture our own Apprentices and embed our business values into them right from the start.”

During the initial training, trainees will obtain a CSCS card, a DBS check, an application for a Provisional Driving License and subsidised driving lessons.

Upon successfully completing the programme and final interview trainees will gain a permanent paid position and an Apprenticeship training programme, becoming a full skilled tradesperson.

The programme starts 11th July 2016. To find out more about this and other training and employment opportunities available through St Helens Chamber, young people aged 16-24 are invited to attend the St Helens Chamber Jobs Fair at Langtree Park Stadium, St Helens, between 12 noon and 4pm on Wednesday 29th June.
