New Premises and grant funding is the formula for success for chemical waste company

Chamber Member, Qualitech Environmental Services Ltd has expanded into spacious new premises due to grant funding accessed through St Helens Chamber.

The Haydock based company was established in 2011 and provides a range of services around industrial waste and chemical management.

Andy Collier, Director at Qualitech said: “We specialise in industrial hazardous waste management and industrial tank and equipment cleaning. We also do road haulage of chemicals and are branching out into blending and toll manufacturing of chemicals and solvent recovery.”

Qualitech approached St Helens Chamber for help with external funding to secure new offices that would allow the business to grow.

Andy said: “We were looking to expand because we were working from a Portakabin. We initially wanted to build an office block, but at the same time as we submitted planning application an existing office block was made available and we purchased that.

“Now we have more room to park the wagons which means we can expand the fleet and also the number of people working for the company. Having more space has made the company more efficient. “

Qualitech received funding through the Merseyside Jobs and Growth Fund which allowed the company to put their plans for growth into action.

The Merseyside Jobs and Growth Fund was managed by St Helens Chamber and provided grants for businesses planning to expand or invest in Merseyside, creating new jobs for local people.

Andy said: “Without the RGF grant from St Helens Chamber we wouldn’t have been able to afford the office block and as a result, we have taken on more staff and grown as a business. Now we can host meetings with our clients in an attractive and spacious office, rather than in a small Portakabin.”

Andy met with specialist business adviser, Geoff Bates who took him through the entire grant application process.

Andy continued: “I would recommend St Helens Chamber to any business thinking about external funding. Geoff at the Chamber helped us put together the financial information we needed. My background is in Chemistry, so I didn’t have the skills to put the finances together to apply for the grant.

“We’ve been growing since we started in 2011, but having this office and working with St Helens Chamber has facilitated the growth we need to take us to the next level.”

Geoff Bates, Business Support Manager said: “From my first meeting with the directors it was clear that they had ambitious plans for the company but they needed a bit of help to clarify their strategy and aims.

“We helped them to create financial forecasts through the Business Financial Planning Programme funded by St Helens Council which were used to obtain both the grant and private investment needed to buy the new offices. The new head office is very impressive and has given the directors the confidence to push the company forward.”
