Award-winning BBC presenter and social entrepreneur Jay Blades will be attending the Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Graduation on Thursday 7 March 2019 at St George’s Hall to congratulate and celebrate the success of hundreds of local Apprentices.
The Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Graduation 2019 aims to give Apprentices from across Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral, the same recognition that university students receive upon the completion of a degree.
Jay comments: “I am very excited to be involved in the Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Graduation as it is a great way to recognise and reward the success of apprentices in front of their employers, family and friends. Apprenticeships are increasingly being seen on a par with a university route to success and the Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Graduation will demonstrate this.”
Jay is very keen to share with young people the skills he believes have helped him begin his own business, Jay & Co, a social enterprise that works with disadvantaged and disengaged young people to help them achieve sustainable, positive lives through practical and interactive interiors projects.
By working specifically with young people via mentoring and by teaching them the practical skills of how to restore and replenish old furniture, Jay is bringing back into the community many British crafts, which have been long forgotten. Jay’s ethos when working with young people is clear ‘‘if you truly wish to improve your self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth, stop allowing other people to be responsible for them’’.

To attend, you must be a Liverpool City Region resident and have completed an apprenticeship programme within the 2017/2018 academic year, 1 September 2017 – 31 July 2018. Your apprenticeship can be in any career sector and you can bring up to two guests to help celebrate your success.
