Jobs/Apprenticeships

Leanne Carey Livesey Spottiswood

Leaving school or college is an important but exciting time for anyone and you should make sure you have all the relevant information you need to make a decision about what to do next. Knowing where to go for impartial advice can be difficult, so we’ve put together a short guide on what’s available at the Chamber…

Fast Track to Apprenticeships courses

These courses are for young people aged 16-24 who may not have much work experience. They are designed to get you up to speed with the skills you need to enter the workplace and will help set your CV apart from others when you’re applying for an Apprenticeship.

These courses can help you into almost any industry; from construction to childcare and at the end of the course you can start applying for Apprenticeships knowing you have all the skills and workplace experience you need to get started.

You’ll be expected to come into the Chamber, Chamber Hair and Beauty Academy or Construction Training Centre dressed smartly and will be treated like a member of staff in the workplace, which will help you settle in much quicker to a working environment; something which our former students found helpful.

“I’ve already recommended the course to three of my friends who have now started; I’d recommend it to anyone looking to get into a job who might not want to go to college. You’re treated like an adult in the workplace and not a college student, which was a much better fit for me.”

Study Programme

Lasting 7 months, our study programmes give young people aged 16-18 an in-depth introduction to their chosen industry (St Helens Chamber offer study programmes in Digital Marketing, IT Systems and Coding and International Trade and Logistics).  Each study programme includes not only relevant training and nationally recognised qualifications; but also CV help, interview prep, a work placement, an all-expenses paid trip to Stuttgart, range of field trips and free driving lessons.

If you already have a keen interest in either Digital Marketing, IT and Coding or International Trade and Logistics then a study programme is the perfect way for you to get started in the industry, with a guaranteed interview for an Advanced Apprenticeship on completion.

Apprenticeships

An Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to complete on the job training while earning a wage. Apprenticeships are available in many different industries and can help you reach your career goals much faster as you’ll not only have the qualifications your friends in college have, but also you’ll have real work experience to back it up; something which is becoming more and more important to employers.

For those of you who don’t enjoy being cooped up in a classroom and would much rather learn practically and start working your way up the ranks in a business, an Apprenticeship is perfect. Many companies both large and small deliver Apprenticeships, so you won’t be short of choices if you decide to go down this path. Also, if you train with the Chamber you’ll be in good hands as we have the highest Apprenticeship achievement rate in St Helens [LINK TO ARTICLE]!
