The project aims to improve transport connectivity in and around Lea Green Station, St Helens for residents, local business and visitors. We are developing a business case to seek funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Transforming Cities Fund.

Almost half a million train journeys are made to and from Lea Green station each year. At present, the station only offers basic customer facilities, and the on-site car park is exceeding capacity. The demand has led to vehicles parked illegally on-site and excess parking in local residential roads, causing problems for residents and preventing local bus services from accessing the station.

The ERIC project is a package of much needed infrastructure improvements that will connect Lea Green station on foot, by cycle, by bus and by car. The project will focus on the transformation of the station and surrounding area, including:

  • A new ticket office with enhanced passenger facilities
  • An expanded park and ride to meet increasing demand for longer journeys by rail
  • Highway improvements including seven cycle routes and a new junction at the Bull & Dog roundabout

Changes to the infrastructure will make the station more accessible and alleviate the issues we have outlined above. New and existing passengers will be able to travel more sustainably and safer active travel routes will improve the area for local residents.

We will be carrying out public consultation on the project proposals at the beginning of 2021 and we will notify you of this.  If our funding application is successful, project delivery will take place between April 2021 and March 2023.

Thank you in advance for supporting our bid to improve sustainable transport links at Lea Green for residents, local businesses and visitors.
