A St Helens washroom service company is growing thanks to support from St Helens Chamber’s Business Growth Programme.

Golden Environmental Services, which trades as Golden Hygiene, approached the Chamber looking for support to grow. Following a free business diagnostic the company received 12 hours of marketing support after this was identified by the Chamber as an area for growth.

Managing Director, John Erskine, commented: “Golden Hygiene was established in 2009 in Rainford, and in that time has enjoyed growth based on recommendation as opposed to structured marketing.

“I decided that this year it was time to organise our marketing and move growth to another level, however as always with a small business time is precious and I thought if I don’t get help nothing will happen.”

John attended an online marketing course at St Helens Chamber and received one-on-one support from a specialist marketing consultant to help shape his marketing strategy.

He commented: “Working with the marketing consultant helped us come up with some ideas that really suited our business and how to market it. Together we produced a marketing strategy that helped me to focus our marketing to get the best results; something I am sure I would not have been able to achieve without the support.”

Golden Environmental Services provide a wide range of high quality washroom products and services, helping businesses meet their legislative responsibilities and environmental sustainability targets. Their customers include companies in the retail, manufacturing, healthcare, tourism, education and leisure sectors.

Helen Morris, Business Adviser at St Helens Chamber, commented: “Golden Environmental Services have been successful in gaining a lot of business through word of mouth alone. As they look to reach new customers we’re delighted to be able to connect them to specialist marketing support for growth.”

John added: “I am grateful to Helen and the Chamber team for guiding me through the support programme application. I have confidence that the new marketing strategy will help me to achieve the growth in a share of the workplace services industry that I am looking for.”

Launched in July and funded by the European Regional Development Fund and St.Helens Council, St Helens Chamber’s Business Growth Programme is designed to help businesses operating in the business to business sector who want to grow, but are finding obstacles in their way.

Following a free business diagnostic to identify any issues standing in the way of growth ambitions, the Chamber’s Business Advisers will put together a bespoke action plan for the business.

Companies will then receive fully-funded advice and support from Chamber Business Advisers and specialist business consultants, offering practical solutions to achieve their goals and improve their competitiveness.
