Give an hour… make a difference

Would you like to be the person who inspires a young person’s future?

With the Give an Hour campaign, you can help show young people what is possible for their careers, by giving advice and sharing your journey and insights with schools/colleges in your local community.

This unique and valuable advice can help shape a young person’s view of their career prospects and by finding out what it’s really like working in different industries, they can make more informed decisions about their future career or get inspiration if they aren’t sure which career path to pursue.

What does Give an hour involve?

An hour isn’t much time, but it can have a real impact on young people. You can share your experiences, inspire them and introduce new paths they may not have considered.

Your hour can include speaking to a class, carrying out mock interviews, supporting a CV workshop or any other way you think you could engage with these young people. These short activities make a big difference to the perspective of a young person and are very rewarding for all involved.

Benefits to your business

Not only does the campaign allow you to give back to your community, you can inspire your employees too; with helping shape a young person’s future described by one participant as “truly uplifting and invigorating”.

When meeting ambitious young people, you may even find some new recruits; we have plenty of training and support available for businesses wanting to offer Apprenticeships!

Give even more support by becoming an Enterprise Adviser

St Helens Chamber are looking for Enterprise Advisers, who on a regular basis provide support and advice to young people who are considering their career choices. Enterprise Advisers are committed business people who are willing to provide ongoing support to a local school or college to help prepare students for the world of work.

You’ll work closely with schools to develop a strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement. You may also be invited to attend networking events and much more. This is an exciting opportunity for any business owner to give back to their community and enjoy the many benefits this scheme brings.
