The Chamber’s Board of Directors is comprised of both private sector and public sector representatives, working together to provide strategic direction and oversee governance of the Chamber’s activities.
Board Members play a key role in ensuring Chamber services are designed to best support the local economy and meet the needs of St Helens, its businesses and people.
Our current Board Members bring a wide range of skills and experience, and represent both large and smaller companies within the Borough.
10 of the Board are private sector Chamber Members appointed by the Nominations Committee to be non-executive Directors, with the remaining five being appointed from partner organisations and the public sector. The Chief Executive is an Executive Director. This results in a Board that is private sector led, but benefiting from public sector representation.
Chairman Graham Worsley has been a Board Member for many years and is keen to encourage other Chamber Members to get involved.
He explains: “Being on the Board is a unique opportunity to influence the direction of St Helens Chamber and ensure we continue to deliver relevant, high quality, Award-winning support to our Members.
“The Chamber performs a very broad and supportive role in the local community. Personally I’ve found it very rewarding to see our involvement with local companies and local people, and witness them grow and develop and see some become award winners themselves.”
As a Board Member you would meet with the Board every two months to review the strategic direction of the organisation and review financial and operational performance. You may also join one of several Board Sub-Groups, according to your skills and interests. These enable Board Members to work more closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure the Chamber’s activities meet local needs.
Board Members also regularly attend Chamber events and support activities such as new business mentoring and work experience.
All St Helens Chamber Members are welcome to express an interest in joining the Board. You may nominate yourself for election to the Board if you are: a senior person at local level of a private sector company; a sole trader or a partner of a private sector partnership.
Every nomination will be considered by the Nominations Committee.
