Katy Hunter-Pilkington, Marketing Assistant at Carmel College, completed a Digital Marketing Level 3 Apprenticeship standard with St Helens Chamber to develop her skills and learn more about the world of marketing.

Katy explained: “I have really enjoyed my training at the Chamber. My Training Advisor, Sian, is very professional, knowledgeable, and really made me feel at ease as soon as we starting to have our training sessions.

“I haven’t had the smoothest ride during this Apprenticeship. I started it a few months before the Pandemic started and working from home with 2 small children and trying to complete an Apprenticeship hasn’t been easy. However, Sian was great at keeping in touch with me and building my confidence up when I was starting to lose belief in myself.”

Katy has worked with Digital Marketing Tutor, Sian, to develop skills directly relating to her Marketing role.

The Digital Marketing Level 3 qualification focuses on the essential skills students need to develop their own technical knowledge and understanding required for their role within a marketing team.

Topics include:

  • Principles of Coding
  • Marketing Principles
  • Digital Marketing Business Principles
  • Social Media

Yes, I would. It is a great programme to further your knowledge, learn new skills, whilst gaining a level 3 qualification. My favourite part about the whole Apprenticeship was the 4-day Synoptic Project. I was quite nervous going into the project but as soon as I started, I absolutely loved it. I was able to express my creativeness freely and really put everything I had learned into the project and show off my skills. It was really fun and I was really proud of the project I produced.

Katy continued: “The one-to-one sessions are really helpful, and she has been great at explaining terms to me that I was unsure of. I have also received Maths tutoring from the Chamber. Without this help I wouldn’t have passed.

“I have maths anxiety and many lessons with Sue, really helped me understand how to read the questions better and work them out! I am grateful to both Sian & Sue for their support. The top 3 skills I have learned are, Content Creation – telling a story with content, How to improve website SEO and how to use Google Analytics and these are great skills to have for my role. ”

St Helens Chamber’s range of Apprenticeships are designed to give students the exact skills they need to excel in their roles. The Apprenticeships are designed with employers to give trainees actionable insights that they can use in their day to day work.

Katy explained: “Through the online training and research during the Apprenticeship training I have learned much more about Digital Marketing that I knew before I started. I have started to implement these new skills and new knowledge into my job role, and it has really improved my standard of work.

“I have also been able to offer more knowledgeable information to team meetings and express how I feel we can improve our marketing strategies.”

Apprenticeships are open to anyone of any age and seniority level, and businesses can access a range of funding options depending on eligibility; making Apprenticeships a highly cost effective choice for staff training.

Katy added: “I really would recommend an Apprenticeship to anyone. It is a great programme to further your knowledge, learn new skills, whilst gaining a level 3 qualification. My favourite part about the whole Apprenticeship was the 4-day Synoptic Project.

“I was quite nervous going into the project but as soon as I started, I absolutely loved it. I was able to express my creativeness freely and really put everything I had learned into the project and show off my skills. It was really fun, and I was really proud of the project I produced.”
