Businesses who hire an Apprentice can now claim up to £4,000 for every Apprentice they hire between 1st April 2021 and 30th September 2021, thanks to new government incentives brought in to help businesses hire new talent as the UK starts to slowly open up again after lockdown.
When businesses hire an Apprentice of any age, they will receive a grant of £3,000 for onboarding and training costs. If the Apprentice is aged 16-18, they will receive an extra £1,000 grant – meaning businesses can claim up to £4,000 per Apprentice they hire.
Lisa Weir, Head of Apprenticeships and Quality at St Helens Chamber, commented: “Its great to see the Government providing more incentives to businesses hiring Apprentices. 80% of businesses who employ Apprentices think they make the workplace more productive – so these incentives provide a great opportunity for local businesses to both support young people and increase their productivity.
“Apprentices bring plenty of energy and a willingness to learn, and can provide a lot of support to a business during these difficult times. With the financial burden removed from businesses, I think this is a great time to hire an Apprentice.”
St Helens Chamber can help businesses access these new incentives, and can take care of advertising your vacancy, shortlisting candidates and can provide their Apprenticeship training too. With St Helens Chamber taking the stress out of recruiting an Apprentice, you can focus on getting your business back open after the lockdown.
Lisa added: “We have a dedicated team who take care of everything from advertising your vacancy to matching suitable candidates to your vacancy. We our expert trainers will support your new hire to get their qualifications and will visit your workplace to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
“We have already helped lots of local businesses to access the Government incentives and we look forward to supporting even more businesses to take advantage of this opportunity to hire a talented Apprentice into their business.”
Alongside the new £4,000 incentive for Apprentices, there are two other fantastic opportunities for businesses looking to benefit from the skills of talented young Apprentices. Businesses can claim up to £10,000 when taking traineeship students on work placements, and can get an unemployed 16-24 year old’s NMW salary paid for up to 25 hours per week through the Kickstart scheme.
Lisa added: “The Government have provided a range of fantastic financial incentives to support businesses getting back on their feet. This is a great time for businesses to tap into the pool of ambitious Apprentices we’ve been training at the Chamber, and we are here to support them every step of the way.”
