Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has today announced the introduction of a new bus travel scheme that will see Apprentices aged 19 to 24 given half-price discounts on all weekly and four-weekly passes.

The discount, which would put the prices in line with Merseytravel’s solo tickets for under 19’s, was brought in after the mayor’s office worked with Bus Alliance partners Stagecoach and Arriva and would see savings of up to £420 for Apprentices within the Liverpool City Region.

Mayor Rotheram has said that some young people have been put off travelling on busses in the past due to the high cost.

It is hoped the new discount scheme will make Apprenticeships more attractive for young people as costly travel expenses would no longer be a worry for them.

It is also hoped that the move will promote bus use as well as moving to offer those following a vocational route the same support as those who follow academia.
