Tools you will need to bring: You are not required to bring any tools along with you

• Reducing Expenditure: Ways of reducing spending on food, prioritising needs with constraints of a limited budget.

• Bank and Building Society Services: Key features of banks and building societies, current accounts, savings accounts and investments and credit cards and store cards

• Borrowing Money: Advantages and disadvantages of borrowing, getting help when in debt, good debt e.g. student loans.

• Banking cards and internet fraud plus identify theft

On Successful completion of this course, you will gain the Ascents Level 1 Award in Personal Finance.

This course lasts two days from 9:30am - 4:00pm and is based at our Clickworks building. 

By the end of the session all learners will have:

  • An understanding of useful information to have prepared before the interview
  • An understanding of what interviewers will be expecting in regards to; Punctuality, Dress Sense, Behaviour and Language Use
  • An understanding of the importance of researching the interviewing organisation
  • An understanding of questions to ask the interviewer

Having a good CV is vital while you are seeking work, our advisors will give you guidance and advice in what you should and shouldn’t have in your CV.

We also offer Interview skills sessions to help you perfect your technique so you can go to interviews with confidence.

On successful completion of this course learners will gain the Entry Level 3 Award in Work Skills.

VRQ Hairdressing

Qualification Overview:

To gain the skills you need to work in a hairdressing salon or barber shop. Our certificates and diplomas cover a wide range of skills from shampooing, cutting, perming and styling to advanced colour correction.


Qualification Structure:

Level 2 will suit you if you have some experience in the Hairdressing and Barbering industry. You want to be a Junior Stylist.

There are three qualifications available at this level:

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
• Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering

Depending on the qualification you choose, you complete between six and nine mandatory units and a range of optional units. Mandatory units include:
• Advise and consult with clients
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Cut hair using basic techniques.
• Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work

Optional units include:
• Plait and twist hair
• Fulfil salon reception duties.
• Perm and neutralise hair

A Hairdressing NVQ can jump-start your career in Hairdressing. With a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification you can get your first Salon Assistant job, and with the higher levels you could become a Stylist and go on to be a Salon Manager.

To run your own salon or specialise in particular hair types or hairdressing treatments, you might want to think about these other qualifications too:

• Level 3 Certificates and Diplomas in Hairdressing and Barbering- update and learn new skills and techniques
• Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effect, Hair and Media Make-up - update and learn new skills and techniques

• Level 4 Diploma in Management Practices and Advanced Techniques in the Hair & Beauty Sector - the skills to run your own hair salon.
• Award in Contact Dermatitis Prevention - the techniques to protect customers from infection.
