Level 3 Information, Advice & Guidance

Thanks to funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Adult Education Budget we are pleased to be able to offer this course free of charge – provided that attendees meet the following eligibility criteria;

  • Aged 19 or above as of 31/8/22
  • Reside in the Liverpool City Region
  • Do not currently hold a full Level 3 qualification regardless of employment status, OR;
  • Are Unemployed, regardless of whether they hold a full Level 3 qualification or above; OR
  • Are Employed and earning less than £19,305 per annum regardless of whether they hold a full Level 3 qualification or above.

Please note that we will require evidence of the above (Universal Credit App, payslip/contract of employment, Prior Learning Record, proof of address etc.)

If you do not meet the above criteria we can still offer this course on a commercial basis – please enquire for further details

This course is suitable for you if you are currently working or volunteering in a role that offers information, advice and guidance to clients at a Level 2 standard (or have a relevant qualification).

Open Awards Level 3 Certificate in Information, Advice and Guidance

Course content:

Learners will gain knowledge and understanding in the following areas;

• Recognise the limits of own ability and role in relation to delivering information, advice and guidance

• Understand equality and diversity in relation to information, advice and guidance

• Understand the importance of confidentiality, data protection and impartiality in interactions with clients

• Be able to interview clients and advise appropriately on refugee, immigrant or asylum seeker issues

• Recognise the role of group work in information, advice or guidance

• Understand and manage group dynamics

• Understand the range of media which can be used to provide information for clients

• Understand how to identify personal development objectives

• Understand the Labour Market Intelligence required by clients in relation to careers guidance

• Be able to use Labour Market Intelligence with clients


Progression and related roles:

A Level 3 qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance is usually a pre-requisite to work in a variety of roles including a Careers Advisor or Employability Coach, and is highly beneficial in additional positions such as Youth Worker, Counsellor, Customer Service Advisor and Housing Officer.
