Thanks to funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Adult Education Budget we are pleased to be able to offer this course free of charge – provided that attendees meet the following eligibility criteria;
- Aged 19 or above as of 31/8/22
- Reside in the Liverpool City Region
- Do not currently hold a full Level 3 qualification regardless of employment status, OR;
- Are Unemployed, regardless of whether they hold a full Level 3 qualification or above; OR
- Are Employed and earning less than £21,225 (£10.90 per hour) regardless of whether they hold a full Level 3 qualification or above.
Please note that we will require evidence of the above (Universal Credit App, payslip/contract of employment, Prior Learning Record, proof of address etc.)

The qualification provides an introduction to teaching and aims to meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as those not currently in a teaching or training role, those currently teaching & training including new starters, and assessors.
Qualification:
NCFE Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
Course content:
This qualification is designed to prepare learners for employment and support them to progress to a teaching role within the workplace. It has been developed for those intending to work in the post-16 education and training sector. By the end of the course, attendees will have learnt about the following;
- Understanding the teaching role and responsibilities in education & training.
- Summarise key aspects of legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice.
- Why it is important to identify and meet learner needs.
- Understand inclusive teaching & learning approaches in education & training.
- Why it is important to provide opportunities for learners to develop their English, Mathematics and ICT skills.
- Explain ways to engage and motivate learners.
- Summarise ways to establish ground rules.
- How to provide constructive feedback to learners to meet their individual needs.
- Identify areas for improvement within own delivery.
- Understand types and methods of assessment.
- Explain how different types of assessment can be adapted to meet individual learner needs.
- Understand the role and use of constructive feedback in the assessment process.
- Understand requirements for keeping records of assessment in education & training.
Progression and related jobs:
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
- Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
Learners may also progress into employment as a tutor within:
- further education colleges
- adult and community education providers
- offender education
- work based learning providers
- the third/voluntary sector
- independent training organisations.
Assessment Criteria:
This qualification is assessed via written assignments and a mictoteach.
Please note that interested learners will be asked to attend an Information & Enrolment Session prior to the course commencing, to complete an Initial Assessment and speak to our Tutor to assess suitability. Whilst this course is delivered remotely, in-person attendance in St Helens is required on the final day due to the microteach.
