Who's it for?

This is a required qualification for people working, or planning to work, with children and young people aged up to 19 years old. Typical roles include care worker, childminder, nursery nurse, careers adviser, youth worker, foster carer or speech and language therapist.

What will they study?

Based around three pathways – early learning and childcare; social care; and learning, development and support services – students follow a number of core options to demonstrate their knowledge and ability in group and/or one-to-one child settings. Areas they’ll cover include understanding child development, working together for the benefit of children and safeguarding; together with a number of more specialised units according to each pathway.

In the workplace.

What next?

Students could progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People’s Workforce. This is an ideal qualification if you aspire to work as a senior practitioner or manager in the sector.
