St.Helens Council, St Helens Chamber and the Local Area Partnership for Creative Learning have achieved accreditation as a Centre of Excellence in Personal Finance Education.
The accreditation has been awarded by pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group) which is an independent charity helping schools to plan and teach personal finance relevant to students' lives and needs.
Centres of Excellence form part of the three year £10m My Money project which is funded by the Department of Children Schools and Families.
The Centre of Excellence will continue to receive free training and resources for schools and teachers so that they can improve the money management skills of primary and secondary school children in St Helens and build on the progress to date. It will also encourage every school to take part in My Money Week 2010 which runs June 28th – July 4th.
Alan Child, pfeg North West Regional Director said: “We are delighted that St Helens has become one of the first local authorities in the North West to gain Centre of Excellence status. We look forward to working in partnership with the Centre to further improve the financial capability of children and young people in St Helens.”
Martin Foulkes, Enterprising St Helens Manager at St Helens Chamber added: “We see personal finance education as key to preparing young people for working life. The Centre of Excellence recognises the work done by the partners in St Helens to ensure young people receive this training and hope the additional status allows us to develop this further in the future. This will allow more young people to achieve economic prosperity in St Helens.”
