More and more businesses are realising that a skilled workforce can help them weather the current tough market conditions, with one in five employers hiring more Apprentices to help them survive the downturn.
St Helens Chamber has secured new funding from the Learning and Skills Council to deliver Apprenticeships to young people aged 19-24.
Traditionally more popular with the younger 16-18 age group, Apprenticeships offer work based training in a range of subjects, including retail, warehousing, health and social care, business administration and customer service.
New research, carried out by YouGov on behalf of the National Apprenticeship Service, recently found that 90% of people in Merseyside would be more inclined to use the services of a company that offered Apprenticeships.
As well as highlighting the potential business benefits of employing an Apprentice, the research also shows local people’s resounding support for young job-seekers in today’s economic climate, with 100% of people in Merseyside stating that they think it is important for companies to take on Apprentices.
Sue Price, North West Regional Director for the National Apprenticeship Service, said:
“These results prove that there are definite business advantages for companies in Merseyside that take on Apprentices as part of their workforce. In the current economic climate, businesses want to stand out from the crowd and offering Apprenticeships is one way of doing this.”
Christine Barton, Training Services Manager at St Helens Chamber, added: “The Apprenticeship programme is available to existing and new employees aged 16-24 and offers a training solution combining the benefits of workplace experience and formal training.
“Research shows that over three quarters of employers agree that employing Apprentices makes their workplace more productive, and with the cost of the training being fully funded by the government, Apprenticeships can deliver real returns to your bottom line.”
All Apprenticeship training is tailored to your business needs, fully funded and delivered 100% in the workplace.
