Throughout the month of May St Helens Chamber has been working hard with local businesses to identify suitable job vacancies for young people and now thanks to the commitment of local employers the Chamber is now advertising over 40 Apprenticeship vacancies aimed specifically at 16-18 year olds.
Kath Boullen, Chief Executive at St Helens Chamber, explains: “We are very grateful to local businesses for realising the need to offer employment opportunities to the Borough’s young people and supporting our efforts to create Apprenticeship vacancies. With this year’s school leavers only weeks away from entering the job market there really couldn’t be a more crucial time to create these vacancies.
“We are specifically targeting these positions at 16-18 year olds in an effort to curb the growing unemployment rates locally, not just now but in years to come, by making sure that when our young people leave school and college there are jobs available to those who choose not to go onto university.”
All the positions advertised are permanent, paid full-time jobs and lead to nationally recognised Apprenticeship qualifications in an area relevant to the job role.
Kath Boullen adds: “Apprenticeships offer a real alternative to further and higher education by providing paid employment alongside vocational training – without incurring mountains of student debt. Apprenticeships are no longer restricted to manual and engineering trades and can offer excellent progression routes into fulfilling careers.”
As part of the Chamber’s Apprenticeship programme it delivers a three week induction programme for all candidates, to provide them with some basic training in key skills such as communication, team working and health and safety and well as helping them to prepare for interviews, to make sure that they are ready to enter the workplace.
