The team at Chamber Members Longworth Building Services Ltd, is taking time out of the day job in an effort to raise £15000 for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool.
To raise the money the group will attempt to walk 90 miles in three days, coast to coast from the North Sea to the Irish Sea, generally following the route of Hadrian’s Wall.
Longworth’s Managing Director Paul Smith, who will be taking part in the walk says: “This is a huge challenge for us. We will be attempting to walk well over a marathon a day for three consecutive days and the route takes in the Northumbrian Moors which is one of Britain’s most inhospitable landscapes.”
The challenge starts on 29th June at Tynemouth and will hopefully be complete on Sunday 2nd July at Bowness on Solway.
Paul adds: “There are 21 of us from Longworth taking part and we have all been training most weekends for the last four months. This alone has involved lot of sacrifice, effort and determination from all involved, but it was absolutely necessary given the magnitude of the task.
“We appreciate that times are tough, so we only ask that people give what they are happy with. Every contribution is appreciated by us and more importantly the Hospice and the people they care for.”
Zoe’s Place provides respite and palliative care for young people affected by life threatening or limiting illness. Operating virtually without any government or NHS funding, over £1.2 million is required to be raised through fundraising activities such as these to keep the facility operational.
