Transition to Work

This project provides training and employment opportunities for unemployed adults - specifically in the construction and environmental sectors.

If you are unemployed, you live in St Helens and have a commitment to working in the construction or environmental sectors; this is an opportunity for you.

We will give you the opportunity to gain the skills, training and/or work experience to successfully apply for jobs in these sectors.

The project is divided into two stages. The first involves a two day vocational training programme each week for a period of eight weeks. During this time you remain on benefits. The core of the vocational training will be the EDI/ASET (accredited awarding body) Level 1 Practical Skills Award.

Stage two involves an 18-week period when you will be employed. You will be paid the national minimum wage, the amount depending on your age, for a 35-hour working week.

You will be employed by the Chamber and will work on worthwhile projects to improve the St Helens environment.

Other options include a placement with other employers, with the chance of a longer-term job.  This stage will give you work experience and a work history, and you will be given support to apply for jobs.

The project is designed to build your confidence and enable you to compete for jobs.

Whilst a guarantee of employment beyond the 18 week period cannot be given, you will have gained valuable work experience.

You will also have achieved a range of qualifications that employers are looking for and support from our employment service will help you to search for work.
