| A
ST HELENS-based vehicle maintenance company set up in
a
barn 33 years ago has undergone massive expansion with
branches opening across the country.
From
humble beginnings, Rye Motors now has a turnover of
£5m a year and is poised to clinch yet another
major deal with a well
known national company.
“The expansion of the company in the past year
and a half has been quite phenomenal,” said operations
manager Justin Toole. “We believe passionately
in giving our customers the best possible
service and, because of that, we have earned a very
good name in the industry.”
The company, named after the farm where it began, provides
a full vehicle maintenance service for all types of
transport including cars, vans and trucks, setting it
apart from rivals who tend to
concentrate on just one type of vehicle. It has contracts
for fleet maintenance for some of the biggest names
in business including B&Q and TTL, which provides
vehicles for hire to companies like
ASDA. Rye Motors also has its own MOT test centres,
provides bodywork and specialises in Bosch equipment
at its depot in Ashton in Makerfield.
“We look after the whole of the B&Q fleet
from our depot in Runcorn,” explained Justin.
“The service is 24 hours and we
also have our own vehicles so we can go out to our customers’
premises to carry out mobile servicing, making it convenient
for them.”
As well as the Runcorn and Ashton bases, the company
also has depots in Newton Le Willows, Trafford Park
and on the
Jaguar site at Halewood in Liverpool. More depots have
recently opened in Lichfield and Northants with plans
for more in
Rugby, Derby, Stoke on Trent and Crick.
Due to its growth, the company, which currently employs
130 people, now has plans to recruit dozens more. Rye
Motors has worked closely with the Chamber on its Skillworks
programme and
now boasts a highly skilled workforce and excellent
staff retention.
“About a year and a half ago, myself, company
founder and managing director Les Turner and fellow
operations manager
Craig Gornall, took a long, hard look at the company
to recognise any problems and rectify them,” said
Justin.
“We left no stone unturned and a really important
area for us has been staff training. We asked our staff
what they would like and worked with the Chamber’s
Skillworks to introduce training
programmes. Skillworks has proved a massive help and
we are really pleased with its success.”
Justin added: “We now have employees who are not
only highly competent, but they also feel valued.”
