A St Helen’s company keeping a watchful eye over
streets and businesses in the region, is also helping
to reduce crime in schools.
The
CCTV Company — set up just three years ago —
has secured major contracts to install security camera
systems into schools in the region.
The
evidence provided by the cameras is helping schools
to reduce vandalism and drug abuse and to tackle troublesome
pupils.
“Our
cameras have recorded pupils misbehaving, with their
parents being shown the evidence,” explained Tammy
Gibbons, Business Development Manager at The CCTV Company.
“One school we’ve worked with has managed
to save £40,000 by combating vandalism.”
The
company was set up by engineers John Whelan and Sid
Gee who had previously been working for another CCTV
company. That company was taken over and the pair were
unhappy with the ethos of their new employers.
They
took the decision to go it alone and work began to flood
in. Tammy, John Whelan’s partner, began cold calling
and secured 70 appointments in just two months. John,
Sid and Tammy re-located from Rochdale and set up business
on the former McAlpine site at the Crow’s Nest
on Ashton Road, St Helens.
They
now boast contracts with several Blue Chip companies,
as well as St Helens and Wigan Councils.
“We
have installed CCTV and access control systems for many
businesses in the region and our systems monitor a London
crematorium and Northwich Town Council and crematorium
in Cheshire,” added Tammy.
The
company’s state-of-the-art CCTV systems are encased
in a bubble, making them vandal-proof, and are off-site
monitored, going to a central station. Tammy and her
colleagues at the CCTV Company receive daily reports
from all their monitored sites and, as a fully accredited
company, carry out all maintenance on the systems.
Future plans include partnerships with architects and
builders to have the company’s systems built into
the design of new buildings.
The
company, which employs three design consultants and
six engineers, has a turnover of just under £1m,
which looks set to double each year.
“We
are really excited about the future and are looking
forward to taking the company to its next level,”
added Tammy.
Tammy,
who has worked closely with the Chamber’s Membership
Co-ordinator Helen Emanuel, recently spoke about how
businesses can help reduce crime at the St Helens Business
Crime Conference at the World of Glass on April 19.
