| The
introduction of a new management information computer
system at specialist label manufacturer Lancastrian
Labels
presented the company with a training challenge.
Managing Director John Bambery said: “Our existing
system was quite dated and we were approached to see
if we would test the new system that would replace it.
That meant we then had to
train all our office personnel in how to use the integrated
software, which covers everything from accounts and
sales order processing to stock management.
“It will increase efficiency and once it is fully
up and running it will enable our customers to access
their own information on our website so it was vitally
important that all the staff are fully
trained.”
Workforce Development Advisor John Decamp, from St Helens
Chamber, assisted the company in identifying the right
training solution. Lancastrian Labels, which counts
retail giant HMV among its customers, has also invested
in new software and
hardware for its origination department.
The equipment enables the creation of specific designs
and the production of film from which bespoke adhesive
labels are then produced. Employees will now receive
training in this highly specialised process.
John Bambery added: “The training is extremely
important, as is the funding assistance, but it is the
flexibility that is so useful to a business like ours.
It puts us in control of our training. We can
determine when it takes place and how it takes place.
Because we only pay 20 per cent we can then earmark
more funds to go back into training. The business benefits
are clear, the more
training we undertake the better the company will be”.
